Cooper’s ‘Thank You’ Note in Memory of Grandfather

In recognition of Veterans Day, students in Janeene Westbrook’s fifth grade ELA class at Linden Middle School had a special assignment—write thank you notes to veterans. Following is Cooper Pafford’s particularly poignant note, written in memory of his grandfather.

—————

Dear Veteran,

I have known people like you ever since I knew what veteran means. I wrote this letter to those who fought in the searing heat of the Middle East. Those who were stationed with an M1 submachine gun in Vietnam. To those who went to Korea. To those of the Greatest Generation who fought in WW2 and to those who possibly caught trench foot in WW1. We Americans are proud due to your service to keep our country free.
