INVESTIGATOR FIRED: ACCUSED OF OFFICIAL MISCONDUCT

A Perry County Sheriff’s Office investigator has been fired after allegations of official misconduct.

Drug Investigator Jonathan Kelly’s employment was terminated effective December 31, 2021, following an internal investigation after the accusation surfaced just a few days earlier on December 28.

The matter was turned over immediately to the District Attorney and TBI for an external investigation.

Based on his own admission, Kelly could face a Class A misdemeanor charge. If his accuser’s allegations are found to be credible, Kelly could be looking at a felony charge, Sheriff Nick Weems told the Review.

More information about the specific nature of the offense was not available since the investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff Weems issued the following statement:

“I’ve  wanted from the beginning to be as open as I can in the office which I serve. Today will be no different.
