The 2009-10 PCHS basketball season ended for both the Lady Vikings and Vikings at the Region 6A tournament in Mt. Pleasant. The Lady Vikings fell to Summertown, 51-59, and the Vikings lost a heartbreaker to Wayne County, 55-56.
After getting off to a very slow start—only 6 points in the first period—the Lady Vikings came back strong with two dozen points in the second, and led by 5 at halftime. But with only 9 points in the third, they watched their lead slip away and trailed by 6 going into to the final quarter. Summertown held on by outscoring the Lady Vikings in the fourth to claim the win.
Brook Warren and Alycia Simmons combined equally for 30 points in the game. Kandra Starkey added another 9, and Jacey Tucker and Sara Monroe had half a dozen each.
The Vikings’ defense held Wayne County to only 15 points in the first half of the game, and led by 13 points at half-time. The lead dropped to 11 after three, and PCHS could not rally in the fourth to earn the win—as Wayne County scored 28 points in the final period to take the one-point victory, while the Vikings managed a respectable 17 points.
Christian Cunningham had a remarkable game, scoring 19 points in the contest. Two other Vikings—Dray Mercer with 14, and Cannon Rhodes with 12—also reached double digits. Jacob Tucker added 7 points to the total, Taylor Dill had 2, and Garrett Hill sank a free throw.
Five PCHS athletes were honored by being named to the All Region Team.
For the Lady Vikings, Brook Warren and Alycia Simmons were reognized for their performances.
For the Vikings, Christian Cunningham, Dray Mercer, and Jacob Tucker were included.
Congratulations to both the Lady Vikings & Vikings on a successful season!
