The Perry County Sheriff’s Department has received numerous requests and questions regarding the possibility of establishing a local handgun-carry permit school here in the county. Citizens have contacted local representatives in Perry County government inquiring about the feasibility of a local school to enable residents to complete their state-mandated training for handgun-carry permits. The Sheriff’s Department ahs now applied to the state and is certified to conduct this training locally. The training will be held at the Sheriff’s Department, 582 Bethel Road, Linden. Classes will be planed for Saturdays, as demand dictates. Class size will be a minimum of 10 persons, and a maximum of 15. The training consists of eight hours of instruction and testing: four hours in the classroom, and four hours actually on the firing range. Training can be scheduled by calling the Sheriff’s Department, Monday through Friday, during regular working hours, at 589-8803. Classes will make when an acceptable number of applications have been received. The cost of the training is tentatively set at $100. Applicants will be contacted and advised of the training date and necessary equipment to be bring to the class.
